Mélat tells stories of love in all its facets - whether romantic or platonic, beginning or ending - because love is, in her eyes, the only truth.
Born and bred in the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin, Texas, Melat is no stranger to recognition and representing her community. Whether headlining shows across the nation or opening for the likes of The Internet, Thundercat, PJ Morton, Kool & The Gang, and many more, Mélat’s vocal prowess is celebrated in many of the top publications worldwide. Her work has been covered on Billboard, The Wall Street Journal, Edition Magazine, The Guardian, Essence, Vibe, and numerous others. Mélat’s radiance is evident the moment she hits any stage.
Mélat has twice been selected as the musical guest for the UNHCR World Refugee Day Celebration at the illustrious Kennedy Center in DC and represented the USA with a musical performance at the British Science Museum in London. As a first-generation Ethiopian-American, immigration is an important issue to Mélat. She continues her work in this space by serving the local immigrant community as a member of the Leadership Council at American Gateways.
After taking some years cementing her place as a budding Austin music icon through collaborations with Matthew McConaughey, Austin FC, and being awarded Sonic Guild’s highest honor, Mélat releases her first single, February Music, from her soon to be announced next project.
From love to hardship, success to failure, Mélat speaks to what it means to be a human being simply longing to "be.”
